Hi, I'm Bobby
I’m a Doctor of Chinese Medicine, and I specialize in pain management and performance. My journey began at age 11, when I developed skin problems that my doctors couldn’t fix. The skin was itchy and hot. It kept me up at night, and stressed me out in social situations. It hurt to exercise, which was something I loved. I was prescribed steroid medications by my dermatologist and lifestyle practices from my pediatrician, but they didn’t help. I searched for alternatives to quell my skin and tried everything, but nothing worked. I began to lose hope. At this point, my mom brought me to her acupuncturist, who gave me a brown paper lunch-bag of herbs. We dumped them into a pot on the stove and saw cut-up twigs and leaves. We boiled them, and the whole house stank. The tea we made tasted nasty and made me poop a bunch, but my skin started to clear. Peace at last. I could sleep. Worth it.
I studied physics and biochemistry at UC Santa Barbara, then Chinese Medicine at the Pacific College of Health and Science, earning my Masters of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine and Doctorate of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. I found that my treatments weren’t as effective as I wanted them to be, so I sought continuing education at the Institute of Classical Five-Element Acupuncture in Santa Monica. I traveled to China at studied at the China Beijing International Acupuncture Training Center. I continue my studies via literature review into modern research as well as the classical Chinese medical texts, and I am learning with the Association of Traditional Studies when I can make it out to North Carolina. I will absorb and use anything that can help my patients, because I know what it’s like to lose hope from a disease.
I found my passion in the school clinic, treating patients. I always felt while studying that this medicine had helped me, so it could help others. I felt I owed it something, at least hard work and effort that would be required in order to use it successfully. It wasn’t until my patients started getting better that I realized the medicine had shaped me into someone who could support others. And providing that support is the most rewarding thing.
I am currently accepting patients from my clinic in Tustin, Orange County, California.
Outside of my acupuncture practice, I am an avid martial artist. I study and coach TaiJi and Contemporary Wushu.
